Lorraine holds a Bachelor of Science (Mathematical Statistics, Numerical Analysis and Computation) from the University of Cape Town.  However, she says, her real education came from the school of life where she sought answers to the questions: “Who am I? What is the meaning of human existence? What is my destiny task?”

She has been particularly influenced by a study of the great religious traditions; Carl Jung, founder of Analytical Psychology whose work explored the fundamental nature of mind and behaviour and somewhat restored ‘psychology’ as a discipline of the soul;  and Rudolf Steiner, founder of Anthroposophy (wisdom of the human being), a path of knowledge where the discipline of the soul is placed within the context of understanding the place and work of the human being in the whole cosmos.

"Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of Nature and its beauty"

Albert Einstein

She came to believe that it is only with greater Consciousness that human beings begin to take responsibility for the consequences of their actions on all that surrounds them.

The Sophia Foundation is a non-profit organisation inaugurated in September 2012 and dedicated to supporting the evolution of consciousness amongst people in the interests of themselves, society and the whole of the natural world.

Over time we have tended towards a Philosophy of Rationalism and a science of Materialism – grasping, extracting, defining, categorising, manipulating and exploiting the world around us.  This is an important part of what makes us human.  It becomes a problem when it begins to dominate our reality affecting the way in which we relate to the world, creating the illusion of separation, and castrating us from Nature and each other.
